SYNOPSIS: This fascinating documentary film explores the depths of the Peruvian Amazon, centering its narrative around the paradisiacal archipelago of Lake Caimito, ancestral home of the Shipibo and Konibo and Xetebo nations, epicenter of a conflict that is considered «the largest and most lasting» in the region. The story chronicles the fight for survival of three Amazonian indigenous nations in the Ucayali basin, who face multiple threats to their territories, governance systems and ways of life while protecting the last tropical forests.
The film highlights the collective resistance of Indigenous Amazonian peoples against a regional conservation area illegally imposed on their lands, violating national and international prior consent laws. Through the voices of indigenous leaders and key national figures, the documentary examines the conflict and its possible solutions.
Additionally, it presents the inspiring creation of an unarmed Indigenous Guard, made up of elders, mothers and other community members, who patrol the Lake Caimito Archipelago. These brave guardians denounce invaders, illegal loggers, drug traffickers and illegal fishing boats, sacrificing their lives to protect not only pristine ecosystems, but also humanity’s last chances for survival in the face of the challenges of massive loss of biodiversity, pollution of watersheds and rivers. , and climate change.
